South House, Pitscottie Vale![]() South House, Pitscottie Vale is a peaceful country cottage, set in large gardens, 5 miles from St. Andrews. It is bordered by the Ceres Burn which flows through Dura Den, a 2 mile long wooded gorge, one of the hidden beauty spots of Fife. Along the way are the remains of mills, lades, dams and waterfalls. The crags at the side of the road are famous world-wide for their fossils.
We have a double and a twin room. Both are en-suite with TV, video and radio-alarm and have tea and coffee making facilities. Both look onto the gardens and trees beyond. Guests are welcome to sit or walk outside to enjoy the plants and wildlife. Herons can regularly be seen feeding at the waterfall at the top of the garden. This is an excellent area for holidays with so much to see and so much to do. The historic university town of St.Andrews with its famous golf courses, fascinating old buildings and beautiful sandy beaches is close by. Picturesque East Neuk fishing villages like Crail, Anstruther and Pittenweem, where many artists live and work, can be explored after a drive through the wonderful Fife countryside. Country towns and villages such as Cupar, Ceres and Falkland rank amonst the most attractive in Scotland. This is also marvellous walking and cycling country. There are hills to climb offering superb views, country rambles and many miles of coastal paths and beaches.
Although not all our guests are vegetarian we, ourselves, are. We mostly use wholefood and organic ingredients. For breakfast there is a choice of fruit juices, porridge, cereals, fresh fruits and yoghurts, wholemeal or white toast with marmalade or jam and a range of teas or coffee. A cooked vegetarian breakfast is also available. In the evening, if our guests wish to eat here we offer an evening meal. We like to discuss individual tastes, preferences and dietary requirements with guests and to be as flexible as possible. We offer homemeade soups or pates and a wide range of dishes including pastas, paellas, enchiladas, curries, cous cous, roasts, loaves and salads. Vegetables and herbs will often be from our own garden. These are meals we like to eat ourselves and we hope that others will enjoy them. We ask our guests not to smoke.
