Mermaid's Kelp B&B is located on the East Coast of Vancouver Island in the City of Nanaimo. You may want to consider making our Bed and Breakfast as your "home base" to visit other Island destinations. The West Coast of Vancouver Island is about a two hour drive and Mt. Washington for great winter skiing is a one hour drive. The fabulous beaches of Parksville are only twenty minutes away and Qualicum Beach is a thirty minute drive.

Mermaid's Kelp B&B is on a quiet residential street in the north part of the city. We are only eight blocks away from fine restaurants, shopping and most other services. Our suites have an ocean view and have fireplaces for a truly romantic atmosphere. Our one acre property has large fir and cedar trees, so you never have the feeling of being in a city. Song birds abound and the cry of the near nesting bald eagles will probably be the first sounds you hear in the mornings. Wild deer, raccoon families and wild rabbits often visit our property. The name "Mermaid's Kelp" is derived from the unique kelp art created by your hostess and artist, Barbara Plichtova, the acclaimed former Czech stage and film actress. Her exhilarating creations are displayed throughout the B&B and you may visit her art studio. Her signed limited edition prints are available at a very reasonable price only at the Mermaid's Kelp B&B.
