The terrace

Les Battées is a chambres d'hôtes, situated in the picturesque countryside of Southern Burgundy, providing vegetarian evening meals. Here you will find comfortable accommodation in our early nineteenth century wine grower's house. We offer good food and wine, served in a relaxed atmosphere.

We are within easy reach of Burgundy's major tourist attractions, such as Beaune, the area's wine capital; Autun, with its Roman amphitheatre; and Cluny, once Europe's largest abbey.

Les Battées was originally the centre of a wine-growing estate of 105 hectares, producing the local sparkling wine, Crémant de Bourgogne in our vaulted stone cellars. The buildings are grouped on a rise above the town of St Léger sur Dheune, with an excellent view of the valley and the surrounding countryside.

The main house dates from the early 19th Century, and retains many original features, such as moulded plasterwork, marble fireplaces, and terracotta floor tiles. It is surrounded by a wooded park with a large orchard.

There are four guest rooms, situated on the first floor, with a separate entrance via the raised terrace. The suite/family room, which overlooks the wooded garden, comprises bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and sitting room/children’s room, with sofa bed. There are also three double rooms, all with en-suite facilities. One overlooks the garden, while the other two look out over the main courtyard, with views across the valley.

All the rooms have been decorated and furnished to a high standard, and in such a way as to preserve their original features, while enabling guests to enjoy the modern comforts they might expect. The proprietors, who live on the ground floor, are available for advice and assistance at all times.

Enjoy local wines

We serve a varied vegetarian cuisine, incorporating seasonal produce in a range of styles, including adaptations of traditional local fare.

The produce we use is organic wherever possible. Fruit and some vegetables come from our own garden when in season. We ensure that all eggs are free range, and the cheese we use is suitable for vegetarians. If you are vegan, let us know and we will cater for you accordingly.

All wines have been sourced from producers who do not use animal products for fining. Where possible, we buy locally. Sample the wines made from the famous local grape varieties, the Pinot Noir reds and the chardonnay whites. There is also the less well known Aligoté white variety. This is often served with crème de cassis, a blackcurrant liqueur, as an aperitif, called kir.

Help yourself to homemade jam to go with your croissants, pain au chocolat, or brioche which, along with other local delicacies go to make up our continental style buffet breakfast, accompanied by a good strong cup of coffee (you may need it after the wine).
