La Maison du Vert
A haven for vegetarians, vegans and lovers of good food in the heart of picturesque Normandy La Maison du Vert is a vegetarian and vegan guesthouse and restaurant specialising in delicious innovative cuisine from around the world. La Maison du Vert was established in 1991 but was refurbished in 2001 by new owners, Debbie and Daniel. We are set in the heart of rural Normandy in the tiny village of Ticheville. We offer lovely en-suite rooms with spectacular views along the unspoilt Touques Valley. The Guesthouse
The hotel was built at the end of the 19th century and originally served as the village bakery. It is set in 2.5 acres of beautiful organic flower and vegetable gardens with an old columbage "pressoir" (cider press) and "cave" (fermentation house) as well as the old wash house for the village. We have 3 double rooms (two are en-suite and one has facilities across the hall), one of which is a family room with a double and single bed as well as room for a further camp bed. The RestaurantOur relaxing and intimate restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy our delicious contemporary vegetarian and vegan food. Freshly prepared daily using our own organic eggs, fruit and vegetables from our garden as well as fresh local produce (organic where possible). We offer a wide selection of organic wines and locally produced organic ciders. Guests can also dine outside on our terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens and countryside. The 2.5 acre garden overlooks the Touques valley with wonderful views of the Normandy countryside. Our established organic fruit and vegatable gardens provide lots of fresh fruit, salad crops and vegetables for the restaurant while our many happy chickens provide a ready supply of eggs. We have a large spring-fed pond with lots of fish and plenty of wildlife, particularly for the keen bird-watcher (we have seen kingfishers, herons, hobby, kestrel, buzzards, sparrowhawk, moorhens, green woodpecker, great and lesser spotted woodpeckers, nuthatch, treecreepers, cirl buntings, serins, hawfinches and crested tits in the garden to name a but a few!). There are also ornamental ducks and geese to amuse the children. The AreaThe Pays d'Auge area of Normandy is a lush and unspoilt traditionally farmed area of rolling orchards, woods and pasture land rich in wildlife and amazing wild flowers (notably many orchid species) in spring and summer. A perfect place for walking or cycling (2 bikes are available for guests) down secluded paths and bridleways or quiet leafy lanes. We are not far from the fashionable resorts of Deauville and Trouville with their golden sandy beaches, boutiques and casinos or from picturesque Honfleur. Monet's garden is a lovely day trip, and there are many gardens in the area to visit. The historic cities of Bayeaux and Caen also the D-Day landing beaches are close by. There are many châteaux, manor houses and pretty villages to explore with markets bursting full of local produce. TariffsPrices are per room.
All rooms can take an extra single folding bed for a supplement of 8€ per night. Debbie and Daniel Armitage
