The Greenhouse, Edinburgh - Winner of The Vegetarian Society’s Best Guesthouse Award 2001

The Greenhouse is situated in the heart of beautiful and historic Edinburgh, providing quality vegan and vegetarian bed & breakfast accommodation. We offer an extensive menu in a smoke free environment. The vegetable shampoo and homemade vegetable soaps are free of any animal testing. Even the pillows and duvets are animal free.

Tina Fox, the Vegetarian Society’s Chief Executive commented "If you ever needed an excuse to sample the delights of Edinburgh this is it, good food, great establishment and brilliant location, what more can anyone ask?"

We provide completely vegetarian/vegan accommodation. This can be found in our extensive and varied breakfast menu. We use organic and GMO free products where possible. Many of the dishes served are home made, using fresh ingredients including home grown herbs from The Greenhouse garden. We support local vegetarian suppliers and ensure that all products we use are free of animal ingredients.

The Greenhouse has, in the last three years, undergone extensive renovation, decoration and refurbishment including the increase of ensuite bathroom facilities. There is a TV and central heating in all rooms as well as extensive refreshments at no extra charge.

In addition to food, the whole environmental and ethical approach is essential and to this end each room is provided with homemade vegetable soap and shampoo, non feather pillows and duvets. We use long life lightbulbs and as part of the City of Edinburgh recycling initiative, we recycle glass, newspapers, steel and aluminium cans generated by The Greenhouse.

• Plus (for vegetarians) eggs (fried, poached, or scrambled)
• A sample of our homemade speciality sausages: parsnip, cashew nut and parmesan with sundried tomato; mushroom, kidney bean and coriander (v); polenta with basil and oregano (wheat free and (v)), all served with our own red onion marmalade
• Omelette with a variety of fillings
• Our veggie kedgeree (v)
• Eggs Benedict
• Try our very own breakfast brunch (v)
• Croissant and preserves
• Pancakes with a variety of toppings for veggies and vegans
• French toast and maple syrup
• Speciality toppings on toast: scrambled tofu (organic) and mushrooms (v); Greenhouse tomatoes (v); Greenhouse mushrooms (v); homemade black olive tapenade
• Keep it simple and choose from Tartex wild mushroom pate (v), beans (v), mushrooms (v), cheese (vegetarian and (v)) and eggs (fried, poached, scrambled, or boiled, with soldiers)
