Friday's Place
Fridays Place is an exclusive and private getaway for the alternative in you. Just three teak and mahogany Chippendale cottages have been constructed within acres of uninhabited and unspoilt palm garden on the quiet banks of the Neyyar Backwater. Designed and built by a British couple, Mark and Sujeewa, an eco remit has been a foremost requirement with minimal intrusion into the outstanding natural beauty of this watery environment. Accordingly the bird life is truly amazing. Three species of Kingfisher, Flame Back Woodpeckers, Brahminy Kites and Honey Buzzards, together with a whole gamut of waterfowl, flit, swoop, and wade through our sanctuary garden.
Each cottage is on its own little canalled island, planted out with jasmine and flowering shrubs under a canopy of coconut palm and acacia. From your balcony or hammock you can glimpse the Neyyar river through the reeds and witness life on the river with stitched hulled boats carrying village provisions being punted by. It is truly a place to wonder, to chill, practice yoga, or just read that book you always wanted to. Each cottage is simply furnished with fan and lighting courtesy of our solar system. A Robinson Crusoe experience in comfort!
We are all looked after by Shibu and Sindu Joseph, a husband and wife team, who care for the buildings and provide delectable South Indian meals. It is no doubt a vegetarian delight with organic produce bought daily from the local market. We are a forty minute drive south from Trivandrum International Airport which has many direct flights from Europe. Our position on the borders of Kerala and Tamil Nadu place us well for excursions in to the hinterland to see rubber plantations, spice gardens, temple and palace sites.
