The Country House Montali is located in one of the most beautiful positions in Umbria and Tuscany.

Situated on a plateau (500m) dominating the surrounding countryside with wonderful views of the Trasimeno Lake, Lower Tuscany and the valley of Perugia, with horizons in all directions including sunrise and sunset, the farm is surrounded by a spectacular wood of ilex and arbutus, and olive groves. You will arrive by a gravelled panoramic road and endless trails all around invite beautiful walks and excursions, even to the shores of the Trasimeno Lake.

In the centre of the property an old stone farm house, completely restored according to tradition (brick flooring, wooden beams, stone walls) welcomes the guest in a wonderful and silent peace. Another stone building, a hall for concerts, and two new houses built in the same style, offer ten comfortable rooms with private services (shower,WC), bar, garden, and parking area. One can book half board with the possibility, on request, of having a light lunch, in case people want to spend all day on the farm enjoying a swim in the beautiful swimming pool or a trek in the forest.

The owners take personal care of the cuisine which is exclusively vegetarian, with a wide use of organic farm and dairy products. The menus, which are different every day, offer excellent dishes and delicious meals, according to recipes perfected after the owners' long experience in their own restaurant. They also organize courses of vegetarian cooking.

A Sample Menu

During their stay, besides the walks and the trekking routes, guests can take excursions to Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto Montepulciano and many other beautiful cities of artistic importance. (All more or less within 1 hour's drive). On special occasions the proprietors, passionate musicians, organize live evening concerts of ethnic and world music. The guests, moreover, can buy the farm's products, insuperable olive oil, fruit jams, chutney and other seasonal products.

The Country House Montali's Cookery Courses

At the Country House Montali you can enjoy your visit, and also learn some of the recipes from our kitchen. The cookery courses are held from 16:30 to 20:00, and are about 3.5 hours long. A complete four course menu is served for dinner, changing everyday, and those dishes will be taught to the people who take the course.

It is mostly based on a starter, a "primo piatto" often home made pasta, teaching this old form of art, a "secondo piatto" such as tarts and timbales, "parmigiana", and a dessert. The proprietors, who take personal care of the kitchen, opened one of the first vegetarian restaurants in Italy about twenty years ago, and have been learning from many different chefs from different parts of the world, to elaborate themselves a "Vegeterranian" cuisine, that could match the quality of Italian cuisine and "Gourmet" vegetarian recipes.

The goal has been a life challenge to try to show people that vegetarianism is not a healthy diet based on "sufferance", but that everyone can enjoy really delicious meals, without use of meat and fish.
